Senior Exhibition Guide

Note-- the following is a summary.  the complete text of the senior exhibition handbook, including rubrics, rules, and advice is available:

Handbook Summary:

The Senior Exhibition is a San Diego Unified School District requirement for graduation.  The objective is to show readiness for the school-to-career/college transition through meeting the district performance standardsAt San Diego High School of International Studies, this requirement consists of two parts:

1.    Senior Portfolio which includes:

§       Resume

§       Letter of Recommendation

§       Autobiography or College essay

§       Transcript and attendance record

§       Assignments used to document the ESLRs

o      Extended Essay  or

o      One work which demonstrates accomplishment of the ESLRs

2.  Senior Exhibition

§       10-15 minutes in length

§       Presented to a panel of adults

§       Explains each work

§       Demonstrates accomplishment of each ESLR

§       You must have hard copies of the following portfolio items:

o      Autobiography or College essay

o      Transcript and attendance record

 

A Senior Portfolio...

·      is an organized collection of high school work selected by each student.

·      highlights a student’s knowledge, skills, interests, and experiences.

·      encourages self-evaluation, reflection, and goal setting.

·      creates an important link between school and work or school and post-secondary education.

·      demonstrates the accomplishment of the Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLRs)

·      is presented in a digital format (include four hard copies of the college essay or auto-biography, transcript and attendance record) OR paper format (3 ring binder).

·      is an opportunity to showcase your portfolio.

·      is a presentation delivered to a panel of staff members, 11th grade students, parents, and community  members. 

·      tells what you learned from the one selected work for your portfolio and explains how you accomplished the ESLRs.

·      is required for all students to graduate.

·      is required in order to qualify to participate in senior activities.

·      is to be presented in English.  If a selected work is from a course presented entirely in another language, the student may discuss that work in the other language.

·         Able to speak, read & write to meet personal & career goals.

·         Able to complete the senior exhibition.

·         Able to demonstrate the understanding of the global impact of local issues.

 

 

·         Able to work in teams to understand & analyze contemporary issues from multiple perspectives.

Self-directed Learners:

 

Technology Users:

·         Able to identify their strengths & use them to achieve personal, academic & professional goals.

 

·         Able to apply technology to support work & career demands.

·         Able to set expectations, develop a plan & evaluate their own work.

 

·         Able to use a computer  & various software programs.

Problem Solvers:

 

 Effective Citizens:

·         Able to demonstrate higher order thinking skills such as analysis, synthesis & evaluation

 

·         Contribute their time, energies, and talents to improve the quality of life in our schools, communities, nation and world.

·         Able to identify problems, conduct research, analyze data, summarize results.

 

·         Understand how actions, or lack of actions, affect oneself, others and the community at large.
