2008 NCTE Achievement Award in Writing
For the 20th year, San
Diego High students have shown their exceptional writing ability by winning the
National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) Achievement Award in Writing.
Every year we have entered we have had at least one winning writer. This year
we extended this remarkable record with three students winning this prestigious
national writing competition.
In their
junior year, Rocio Leon (IS), Krisnoff Padua (IS) and Elizabeth Villa (LEADS) were selected to represent
San Diego High. The students wrote a creative piece and sat for a timed essay.
And then they waited. They finally received the good news last week. Winning
this award means that NCTE will recommend that colleges consider them for both
admission and scholarships. In addition, they will be honored by wearing the
Writing Academy red stole and tassel at graduation.
