Drug Sniffing Dogs Assembly
9/19/07
The San Diego High Educational Complex has
contracted with a company, that services 167 schools,
to bring Drug Sniffing Dogs on campus as a deterrent. On Wednesday, a representative for the
company brought one of the dogs to an assembly, to allow students to see the
dog and to understand how they work, and what theyÕll be sniffing for. The process when the dogs come into a
classroom is for all students and teachers to leave, and the dog will sniff
stationary items for alcohol, illegal drugs, medications and gunpowder. If the dog smells one of these items,
they sit to let their handler know they have found an odor. The school administration will take over
at that point to speak with anyone involved.
The assembly for IS, CIMA and SciTech went well,
and the dog and handler were well received. The dog was very popular with students
and got his share of attention once the presentation was over.
There is a
link to the letter sent home with students on 9/18 here.
