Congratulations
to all of our graduating seniors.
Graduation at Starlight Bowl went very well. We hope that everyone has a great summer
vacation. We look forward to seeing
all of our returning students in the Fall.

Karen Wroblewski, Principal of IS 2004 – 2009 Retires
The School of International Studies bids farewell, and
wishes well, to our first principal.
Karen Wroblewski, who has been the principal of IS since it opened
is retiring. Under the leadership of
Ms. Wroblewski, the School of International Studies has been in the top 100
schools in the United States for the last four years, as selected by
Newsweek magazine. We have also been
selected as one of America’s Best High Schools by US News and World Report
for the last two years. We have had
a National Teacher of the Year, Two District Teacher’s of the Year, and a
District Teacher of the Year Finalist.
IS has an API rating of 9/10 with a score of 800. To top it all off, Ms. Wroblewski was
selected as the National Magnet Principal of the Year. IS will miss you, and we wish you a
relaxing retirement.

New Principal for IS
On Tuesday 6/23, the
Board of Education approved the appointment of Kirk Ankeney as the new
principal for The School of International Studies. Mr. Ankeney, the
Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction of the Social Science and
History Department was appointed our new principal, with an effective date
to be determined. The School of
International Studies welcomes Mr. Ankeney, and look forward to working
with him.

IS Old School Kick Back
The IS End of School Event was held on Friday
5/29. Ms. Maull’s Event Planning Class
coordinated the event, which featured Connections classes representing
different years. There was food,
music, socializing and sports to keep everyone active and entertained. The event was a great success, another
great IS activity.

Body Worlds
Mr. Towler’s IB Biology HL class won a contest from New Country 95.7 for a
trip to Body Worlds. On Thursday
5/14, we joined Cindy Spicer, a host from New Country 95.7, for a tour of
the Body Worlds exhibit. We had a
fantastic time, and were able to connect what we saw to what we have
learned in class.

World Fair 2009
The World Fair at SDHS was on Friday 5/1. Clubs and organizations sold ethnic
foods, and there were lots of thing to do.

San Diego High, School of International
Studies made the top 100 list again this
year. We are ranked by Newsweek as
#60 based on AP and IB exams taken and the number of graduating

Senior Exhibitions
On Tuesday 5/26, 100 IS seniors presented their Senior
Exhibitions to a panel of adults.
The presentations went smoothly, and we congratulate our seniors on
their accomplishments.

Congratulations
Ms. Wroblewski – National Magnet Principal of the Year!
On Monday, 4/27, IS found out that Ms. Wroblewski has been
selected the 2008-2009 Magnet School of America - National Magnet Principal
of the Year. On Wednesday 4/29, the
school recognized our principal for her accomplishment. Ms. Wroblewski was
presented with a booklet signed by the staff, and a box of notes from our
students. IS is very proud of our
Principal. Congratulations Ms.
Wroblewski.

IS has another District Teacher of the Year
On
Wednesday 4/1, Mr. Poncey was announced as the 2009 – 2010 High School Teacher
of the Year for the District.
Congratulations Mr. Poncey, and good luck as you enter the County
Teacher of the Year selection process.
We are very proud of Mr. Poncey’s accomplishments, and wish him well
in the selection process.

WASC
Accreditation
Congratulations
to everyone involved in our WASC Accreditation. The School of International
Studies received a 6 year accreditation,
which is the most that can be granted.
All of our Parents, Students and Staff did a great job preparing our
Accreditation Report and working with the Accreditation visiting team. A special congratulations and thanks to Jaime Enochs who acted as our WASC
coordinator.

Americas Best
High Schools 2009
Silver Award
San
Diego High – School of International Studies was selected by
U.S. News and World Report as one of the Best High Schools in America. Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals were
awarded based on preparing students for college. Gold and Silver Medals were awarded based
on AP and IB exam results.
